Ikahaya Loxolo
At a magical place in deep rural Transkei. A German couple who have established a handicapped care centre and organic farm, all for the benefit of the Community here. Absolutely inspirational — at Ikhaya Loxolo.
67 Minutes For Mandela
The celebration of Mandela Day aims to serve as a global call to action for people to “recognise their individual power to make an imprint and help change the world around them for the better”, says the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
Nelson Mandela has been making an imprint on the world for 67 years, beginning in 1942 when he first started to campaign for the human rights of every South African. His life has been an inspiration to the world,” the foundation said. By devoting 67 minutes of their time people can make a small gesture of solidarity with humanity and a step towards a global movement for good.
TCN Architects initiation of this project was to celebrate Former President Nelson Mandela’s 95th birthday and commemorate the 67 years of his involvement toward making South Africa a better place for all.
Upgrading a facility as important as a Community Police Station is our way of maximising “67 Minutes for Mandela” and thereby enhancing the relationship between the community and their guardians of the law. TCN Architects decided to utilise their 67 MINUTES FOR MANDELA in unique fashion by identifying the Beacon Bay Police Station as badly in need of a facelift. TCN co-ordinated a makeover of this station with the assistance of a team of suppliers and contractors we work with.
A team of professionals from our offices were despatched to take photographs and identify immediate needs – viz the uplifting of the Public Areas and furnishing of the brand new Trauma Unit that has been established within the grounds of the Police Station. Everyone was enthusiastically welcomed by the Station Commander who appreciated what the community was doing for them. They are so used to receiving brickbats as opposed to bouquets and have never entertained the thought that they would be singled out for something such as this.
